World Alzheimer's Month is September: Healthy habits to increase brain health.
There is a lot of evidence that lifestyle choices can affect our risk of developing dementia. Dementia risk is lowest in people who have healthy behaviours in mid-life (aged 40–65). No single behaviour is guaranteed to prevent dementia, and some are more easy to change than others.
What are some of the healthy habits we can implement within our daily life which may help reduce the risk of developing dementia?
Stay active - regular exercise boosts blood flow to the brain.
Eat Smart - include fruits, green leafy vegetables, wholegrains, beans, lentils, fish & nuts.
Keep your brain active - engage in activities that challenge your mind - do that crossword!
Sleep Well - make this a priority in order to maintain cognitive and brain health in later life.
Reduce alcohol - try to drink no more than 14 units of alcohol each week.
